Pop the cork! Anniversary celebrations underway
Nipissing officially started to celebrate its 20th Anniversary as a university during Frosh Week celebrations. Each of Nipissing’s three campuses hosted events to mark the double-decade occasion.
Celebrations began in North Bay. Perfectly situated in the midst of the craziness of Frosh Week, the Kraft Dinner Contest and Party cooked up on Wednesday, September 5. In the Nipissing Theatre, our three guest judges; Casey Phillips, Genevieve de Bruyn and Evan Gomes tasted 12 different bowls of Kraft Dinner conjured by a representative from each frosh team. Selecting from over 20 ingredients, the KD bowls ranged from traditional (ketchup and hotdogs), to dessert (cinnamon, smarties and chocolate chips). Following the contest all of the frosh were able to head down to the Wall for a traditional bowl of KD.
The following day, September 6, the celebrations continued in Brantford with the Summer Night Road Race at downtown's Harmony Square. The event kicked off with the Nipissing University 5km and 10km races, followed by a 5km walk, and a 1km fun run, as well as the Teachers Credit Union 300m mascot race. There were special guests from North Bay and Brantford that were able to attend, including multiple students participating in orientation week events.
The Muskoka Campus got in on the celebrations on Monday, September 10, with their own Kraft Dinner Party as a part of their frosh week activities. Staff and faculty put their chef hats on and created multiple dishes that included Kraft Dinner. From KD lasagna to Nacho Dip, the students enjoyed a great lunch with their peers and got to meet several staff members and faculty.
Up next in the 20th Anniversary Celebrations: all three campuses will be getting ready to "Party Like it is 1992" during Homecoming Weekend taking place October 19 and 20. Be sure to register today: www.nipissingu.ca/homecoming. Remember, last year sold out!
