Peer2Peer Indigenous Mentorship Initiatives connects upper year Indigenous Nipissing University students with Indigenous students that are newer to post-secondary education, and/or are looking for additional resources and supports. The program provides cultural support for participants and helps create a network in which all participants can build relationships with one another. Peer2Peer promotes the development of leadership skills and builds community. It is also a great way for students to meet new people!
Mentors are featured on Peer2Peer Profile Posters in Enji giigdoyang.
Peer2Peer Mentors are available online for live sessions to support their peers in the following ways:
- Answer questions about OII student services, the university, and help find answers to questions
- Have a tea or coffee break
- Attend university and community events with peers
Peer2Peer for Students
Peer2Peer mentorship supports students meeting new people, asking questions, becoming better acquainted in the OII student lounge, and being introduced to additional resources. It also creates paths for students to become more involved in the community.
Peer2Peer Student Mentors
Mentors are upper year Indigenous Nipissing University student volunteers who contribute to making our OII student lounge a welcoming space for all. Free training is provided for all mentors, as well as cultural and staff support.
Peer2Peer Student Mentors volunteer in the following ways throughout the academic year whether in person or virtually
- Spend time each week in the Office of Indigenous Initiatives student lounge
- Have coffee or tea breaks with a peer (funds provided)
- Attend on-campus events with a peer
- Attend academic support sessions with a peer
