Nipissing alumni recognized by North Bay & District Chamber of Commerce

Nipissing University is pleased to congratulate three deserving alumni for their success at the North Bay & District Chamber of Commerce’s “Bell Evening of Excellence” event that took place earlier this fall. This event celebrates the winners of the North Bay & District Chamber of Commerce Business Awards. The Nipissing alumni who took home awards were Natasha Snoddon (BBA ‘18), Michael Valenti (BBA ‘98), and Tyler Langlois (BBA ‘15).
Natasha Snoddon
Natasha Snoddon of Northern Spark Marketing received the Young Professional of the Year Award. Natasha graduated from Nipissing University with a Bachelor of Business Administration with a specialization in Marketing in 2018.
An active member of the Nipissing community, Natasha served on several committees and groups such as the Nipissing University Business Community (NUBC) as the Marketing Communications Executive, the Nipissing University Marketing Society, and Relay for Life (Marketing Executive). She was also an International Student Mentor, New Student Orientation Leader and teaching assistant. She was the winner of Nipissing University’s Business Leadership Award and a recipient of the Carl Sanders Scholarship.
“Nipissing University gave me purpose and the right tools to help me prepare for my future,” shared Snoddon. “Nipissing helped me to learn, think, and create on my own.”
Snoddon now owns and operates Northern Spark Marketing, a digital marketing company in North Bay.
“At Northern Sparks Marketing our mission is simple,” she stated, “to offer creative, innovative, and affordable digital marketing services to start-ups, small businesses, and entrepreneurs.”
Their services include marketing workshops, one-on-one coaching and consulting, digital audits and social media review, ad design, and more.
Natasha’s advice for future graduates is to surround yourself with people you admire, work hard, but also balance your work life to avoid burnout, and to become involved in your community.
Michael Valenti
Michael Valenti is the President of Designed Roofing Inc., a commercial roofing and exterior cladding company that works throughout Northern Ontario and was the winner of this year’s Business of the Year.
Valenti graduated from Nipissing University in 1998 with a Bachelor of Business Administration.
“Nipissing made me realize that teamwork and collaboration is a true asset,” he said. “We never stop learning and being able to trust your team members and listening and always being open to learning is a key to success.”
Designed Roofing Inc. was established in 1983 and acquired Essential Exteriors in 2016. Designed Roofing Inc. provides commercial flat re-roofing and new construction re-roofing as well as façades on new and existing commercial buildings.
“It truly is a team award,” shared Valenti. “We are very proud of the team that we have and it’s nice to see the team recognized for the overall effort”.
Valenti’s advice to future Nipissing graduates is to always listen, be open to learning, build a good team, and trust and empower them.
Tyler Langlois
Tyler Langlois was presented with the Small Business of the Year (1-5 Employees) award for The Engraving Shoppe. Langois graduated in 2015 from Nipissing University with a Bachelor of Business Administration in the Economics stream.
The Engraving Shoppe, located in North Bay, has been serving customers since 1982 specializing in engraving, awards, and signage.
