Don your green and blue for Nipissing’s Homecoming Weekend
North Bay, ON – Members of the community are invited to join in Nipissing University’s Homecoming celebrations taking place from Friday, September 22 to Sunday, September 24. Homecoming weekend is a long-standing tradition that celebrates Nipissing University and the many achievements of its alumni as they are welcomed back to their alma mater.
Festivities will kick off on Friday, September 22 at 3 p.m. with a bonfire hosted by Enji giigdoyang, the Office of Indigenous Initiatives, and a guided hike on the campus trails with Norm Dokis. Later, head over to the Nipissing University Student Union (NUSU) Student Centre at 10 p.m. to celebrate your Lakers pride at the Blue and Green Bar Night.
The festivities continue Saturday, September 23, as the Lakers Women’s Soccer team takes to the Nipissing Turf Field at 12 p.m. to face Ontario Tech with the Men’s team following at 2:15 p.m. The Homecoming BBQ and Beer Garden, as well as KidZone activities, will be available at the Turf Field from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Men’s Lacosse will challenge Laurentian University on the Nipissing Turf Field at 6 p.m. and the Lakers Men’s Hockey team will face University of Guelph at Memorial Garden at 7 p.m. Later in the evening, celebrate nostalgia at the Y2K 90’s/00’s Bar Night hosted at the NUSU Student Centre at 10 p.m.
Homecoming celebrations will wrap up on Sunday, September 24 with the Orange Shirt Day – Varsity Women’s Soccer Game at 11:30 a.m. The community is invited to join the Women’s Varsity Soccer team and Nipissing University’s Office of Indigenous Initiatives in honour of Orange Shirt Day. This game against Ontario Tech will begin with a traditional opening and song followed by a student-led Orange Shirt Day initiative.
“Nipissing’s annual Homecoming celebrations gives us an incredible opportunity to not only honour and celebrate our alumni, but to come together as a community to create lasting memories,” shared Bridgette Perron, Alumni Relations Coordinator, Nipissing University. “We hope to see the community out in their green and blue to cheer the Lakers on to victory.”
