Alumni Awards honour two
Nipissing University is very proud to celebrate the achievements of two graduates this Friday, October 17, at the annual Alumni Awards.
Taking place in the Harris Learning Library from 7 – 9 p.m., the annual awards will recognize two graduates with awards.
Erin Dokis receives the Dr. James Jamieson Influential Alumni Award. Dokis graduated Nipissing with a Bachelor of Arts in 2012 and has consistently demonstrated a commitment to First Nations students, and to fostering their success within and beyond post-secondary institutions. Her commitment to the Dokis First Nation, Nipissing First Nation and the Nipissing University community has helped shape her research and her vision of empowering lifelong learners who strengthen their communities.
The Rising Star Alumni Award will be presented to Matthew Adamson, who graduated from Nipissing with a Bachelor of Physical and Health Education in 2011. Since graduation, Adamson has continued his education in pursuit of a Doctor of Medicine at the University of Toronto. He remains enthusiastic about his strong educational grounding at Nipissing University and has continued to contribute to the Bachelor of Physical and Health Education program by providing classroom skype sessions in his limited free time. Adamson has committed to practice family medicine upon completion of his residency.
“The Alumni Awards represent a highlight on the annual calendar at Nipissing University. It’s a fantastic way for us to celebrate some outstanding leaders who share a bond with Nipissing. It is inspiring for our students and other graduates to see how a degree from Nipissing has helped both Erin and Matthew achieve their goals,” said Genevieve DeBruyn, Alumni relations Coordinator at Nipissing University.
