Nipissing U gets set to celebrate undergraduate research at annual conference

North Bay, ON – This Friday, March 24 and Saturday, March 25, Nipissing University will celebrate and showcase the contributions of its undergraduate researchers at the 16th Annual Undergraduate Research Conference held on the University’s campus. Members of the community are invited to take part in this popular flagship event that will feature a variety of research presentations by undergraduate students, as well as a thought-provoking keynote address.   

“We have a number of incredibly knowledgeable and talented undergraduate students whose research explores topics that are meaningful both in their academic fields and to society,” shared Dr. Barbi Law, Interim Dean of Graduate Studies and Research at Nipissing University. “The Undergraduate Research Conference is a long-standing Nipissing tradition that provides a unique opportunity for undergraduate students across the arts, sciences, and professional programs at Nipissing to showcase their research with the community and their peers.”

This year’s keynote address, titled “Why We All Need Death School: Building Community through Death Literacy”, will be delivered by Dr. Susan Srigley, Chair and Professor of Religions and Cultures at Nipissing University, on Friday, March 24 at 6 p.m. in the Nipissing Theatre (100 College Drive, North Bay, Ontario). Dr. Srigley will share how death education has enhanced and deepened her community involvement and why she’s passionate about teaching death education. RSVP to the keynote presentation here.

Following Dr. Srigley’s keynote address, poster and artistic presentations will begin at 8 p.m. in the NUSU Student Centre foyer (221 College Drive, North Bay, Ontario). The conference will continue Saturday, March 25, in the Nipissing University Small Cafeteria (A246) where undergraduate researchers will deliver paper presentations in front of a panel. All events are free and open to the public. A livestream of the keynote will also be available.

The Undergraduate Research Conference is part of a series of Research Month events at Nipissing University. Research Month takes place annually in March and celebrates the impact of Nipissing’s diverse undergraduate, graduate, and faculty research locally, nationally, and internationally.
