Seeking entries to commemorate International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination

On March 24, Nipissing University will join the North Bay community in commemorating the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination (IDERD). 

IDERD was established by the United Nations in 1966 to commemorate the Sharpeville Massacre of 1960. It is observed every March 21 to bring the world community together to increase its efforts in the elimination of all forms of racial discrimination and racism (United Nations, Resolution 2142, XX1).

Nipissing University is part of the local IDERD Committee committed to the elimination of racial discrimination and racism on our campus and within our community. North Bay is the only community in Canada that has participated consistently in the celebration of IDERD and will continue its participation this year virtually on March 24. 

The Nipissing community is encouraged to participate in activities to commemorate IDERD by submitting entries for the following categories:

• Students Who Make a Difference: Do you know a student who has made a positive impact on the institution? Contributed to making their community more inclusive? Shared their time to help a fellow student? Nominees must be current students of Nipissing University and the deadline for entries is March 5 at noon. The nomination form can be found here.

• Anti-Racism Poster Contest: Topic: Sharing our similarities, celebrating our differences. The poster or artwork can be in any language but must be submitted with a translation. Digital artwork will be accepted. This year the contest is open to the North Bay community and the deadline is March 5 at noon.
