Social Work program achieves pre-accreditation status
Nipissing’s Bachelor of Social Work program was recently granted Pre-Accreditation Status for a four-year period by the Canadian Association for Social Work Education’s (CASWE) Commission on Accreditation (COA).
This achievement represents an important milestone for the program as it means graduates will have met the academic requirements necessary to register with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (OCSWSSW). Professional registration is highly significant in the field of social work as only registered College members can use the title “social worker” and/or “registered social worker.” Registered members are regulated and must adhere to the Standard of Practice and Code of Ethics of the profession.
“Receiving pre-accreditation status is a testament to the rigour and quality of our program, said Dr. Mary Pat Sullivan, director of social work. “This is indeed an exciting time for our program and students.”
Over the next four years, the Department of Social Work will work towards the recommendations made by the COA and submit annual progress reports in order to reach full accreditation status.
The Department of Social Work would like to thank all of the faculty, staff and community partners who contributed to this achievement.
