Meet the 2018 NU recruitment team
For many future students, Nipissing’s recruitment team will shape the key first impression made of the University. They have one of the most important jobs at the university: boots on the ground, travelling the province working in high schools, colleges and universities to inform potential students about all that Nipissing has to offer and why it is such an amazing place to work, study, learn in and grow. NU news is proud to introduce our 2018 Recruitment Officers.
They’ll be on-campus until mid-September for training and to polish their presentations, gearing up for the Ontario Universities Fair in Toronto, September 28-30. They’ll be on the road for nine solid weeks talking to prospective students about why Nipissing University is where they belong. If you see them around campus, take the time to tell them what you love about Nipissing, it just might make a difference to a high school student somewhere out there.
And now, with no further ado, NU News is proud to introduce Nipissing’s 2018 Recruitment Officers.

My favourite thing about Nipissing: I adore the university’s close-knit community and incredible natural backdrop. It’s clear when walking through this beautiful setting that everyone here invests in people and gives exceptional effort to make you feel welcome.
The most surprising thing about Nipissing: How beautiful the trails behind the university are. They are incredible and only steps away from the university buildings.

My favourite thing about Nipissing: Having the opportunity to get involved in every aspect of the university community. I was shy in high school, but at Nipissing I was able to come out of my shell by volunteering on and off campus and meeting new people in class, in residence and at events.
The most surprising thing about Nipissing: The views! No matter where you are on campus you can expect an amazing view, whether you are studying in the library looking over Lake Nipissing, eating or socializing in the cafeteria looking at the pond or learning in a classrooms looking at the forest and wildlife.
What are you looking forward to in recruiting this year: I am most excited about traveling to some areas in North Eastern Ontario that I have not visited before on the University Information Program that I am leading this year.

My favourite thing about Nipissing: The tight-knit community, beautiful campus, and the relationships I have made with my professors. Knowing your professors on a first name basis and interacting with them inside and outside of the university cannot be undervalued. Plus, enjoying a coffee (or adult beverage) with them at a local restaurant or pub is also fun.
The most surprising thing about Nipissing: Nipissing offers undergraduate students the opportunity to explore their own research interests and assist professors in their research, as well. These opportunities are not always available at larger institutions.
What are you looking forward to in recruiting this year: Meeting new people across the province and sharing with them all the great things Nipissing University and North Bay has to offer.

My favourite thing about Nipissing: This one is hard because there's so much to like about my time at Nipissing. From building those close relationships with professors and students to having first-hand opportunities in events such as the Women's World curling championships this past March. The campus is surrounded by some of the most beautiful landscapes in North Bay. Nipissing has the perfect sense of community and truly gave me a university experience that I will never forget.
The most surprising thing about Nipissing: How much opportunity there is in the classroom and to get involved within the North Bay community.
What are you looking forward to in recruiting this year: What I'm looking forward to most is to share my experiences from Nipissing University with students from all over Ontario and show them the incredible things that Nipissing has to offer

My favourite thing about Nipissing: Do I have to just pick one? The general vibe on campus is incredibly friendly and welcoming. Not just among students, but with staff and faculty as well.
The most surprising thing about Nipissing: The ability to take classes from all different areas of study, not just your degree program. For an art kid, I sure took a lot of classes from criminal justice, gender equality and social justice, and even computer science.

The most surprising thing about Nipissing: The student engagement. Our students are full of Lakers pride and are always willing to help the recruitment team out at events and showcase what they love about Nipissing.
What are you looking forward to in recruiting this year: While the student recruitment officers are on the road, I have the opportunity to coordinate campus visits for future Lakers and their supporters. Sharing in the excitement of visiting campus is a really rewarding experience.

The most surprising thing about Nipissing: The number of professors who are secret Harry Potter fans. Seriously, ask around.
What are you looking forward to in recruiting this year: I am going to find the country's best coffee shop and I'm not going to tell anybody where it is.

My favourite thing about Nipissing: Everything! But seriously, it is difficult to put into words the experiences that this incredible place provides. The land and the people are rich in providing opportunities for students to grow and manifest the life they’ve dreamt about.
The most surprising thing about Nipissing: The amount of opportunities students are provided.
What are you looking forward to in recruiting this year: Meeting future students who have maybe not yet considered Nipissing to share why it could be right where they belong. Nothing is more rewarding in this line of work than matching a candidate with a university and the student experience that they desire.
