Conflict Resolution lecture and workshop at NU

Like it or not, conflicts arise.  Over time, we will all be faced with countless conflicts, some minor, some violently charged, others emotionally charged.  Sometimes conflict can be beneficial. How we work to resolve conflicts for a greater good is vital to a positive future.  Nipissing University is pleased to host a special lecture and workshop by Dr. Evan Hoffman on conflict resolution this weekend.  

Titled Unleashing the Potential of Conflict Resolution at Home and Abroad, the lecture takes place on Friday, May 11, from 7 - 8 p.m. at the Monastery (room M106).  The workshop, Intro to Conflict Management Training, will run on Saturday, May 12, from 9 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. at the Monastery (room M106).

Both the lecture and workshop are useful to anyone who manages conflicts in the workplace, in the classroom, or works to find consensus between different interests and outlooks.  

These events are hosted by Nipissing’s Dean of Arts and Science, the Canadian International Council, and the Canadian International Institute of Applied Negotiations.  They are open to everyone and are free of charge. Guests can attend one or both as their schedule allows. Guests interested in the Saturday workshop are asked to register by emailing Dr. Hoffman at evanh@nipissingu.caas seats are limited.

Dr. Hoffman is a senior associate at the Canadian International Institute of Applied Negotiation and the program leader of the new Institute of Applied Conflict Management at Nipissing University. He has published numerous articles on the themes of conflict prevention and resolution, peacebuilding and mediation. Dr. Hoffman has provided consulting services to Global Affairs Canada, the Carter Center, the UN, the EU, the Ottawa Police Service, St. Lawrence College, the Vietnamese Ministry of Justice and others on these topics. Over the last 10 years, he’s conducted workshops and trainings with hundreds of community leaders, university students, police officers and government officials from around the world.
