Student earns ESRI Canada Higher Education GIS Scholarship
Congratulations to fourth-year Environmental Geography student Stephanie Rhude, who was recently awarded the Environmental Systems Research Institute (ESRI) Canada Higher Education GIS Scholarship. The scholarship is worth $1,500, along with free software and resources. It is sponsored each year by ESRI, the vendor for the ArcGIS software that used in Nipissing’s Geography Geomatics Lab.
“Winning this scholarship will greatly impact my future career in GIS, and has provided me with an extensive number of opportunities to further my knowledge with ArcGIS software,” said Rhude, who is currently considering a Master’s degree in Environmental Studies at Nipissing.
Rhude earned the scholarship through the strength of her proposal for a project titled Site Suitability for a Sports Complex within Greater Sudbury, ON.
“My project aims to determine the best location by analyzing census information from 2006,” said Rhude. I will also be creating exclusion and inclusion zones, which will be determined by specified proximities from existing building structures.”
