Robichaud named OUA Athlete of the Week
Thanks to an outstanding weekend, Nipissing Lakers men’s hockey team first-year forward, Erik Robichaud has been named the OUA Athlete of the Week.
Robichaud, who is having an excellent rookie season since making the jump to the OUA from the NOJHL and OHL, put up five points, including four goals this past weekend, helping the Lakers earn two big wins.
Friday night, Robichaud scored a goal to help Nipissing earn a 4-3 comeback victory over the visiting Queens Gaels.
Robichaud’s goal, the second of the game for the Lakers, got them rolling, leading to two more goals in the third period.
Saturday, Robichaud one-upped himself, by notching a hat-trick and adding an assist.
The speedy forward scored the team’s first goal on the power play, the lone goal of the opening period.
He capped off the scoring on a shorthanded breakaway, using his speed to blow past an RMC defender to make a slick deke and finish off the ‘trick.
His hat-trick also completed the rare feat of scoring goals at even-strength, shorthanded and on the powerplay in a single game.
Robichaud now has 19 points in 19 games, tying him for second on the team in scoring.
He also has three multi-point games so far this year.
The two wins, on the back of Robichaud’s offensive outburst, catapulted the Lakers into fourth place in the East Division, two points up on Laurentian and just one behind Carleton for third place.
Currently, Nipissing sits just three points out of first place.
