NU interactive display to end gender-based violence
In light of the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women, Nipissing University and #NUperspective is featuring an interactive display aiming to encourage action to end gender-based violence and to acknowledge remembrance of the horrific events that transpired December 6, 1989.
On December 6, 1989, 14 young women were murdered at L'Ecole Polytechnique in Montreal. In Response to this tragic and senseless act of violence, the Canadian Parliament declared December 6, as the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women. Remembering this tragedy has become the basis of recognizing and supporting action against widespread gender based violence in society.
In addition to commemorating the 14 young women whose lives ended in the act of gender-based violence, the display featured at the university will provide an opportunity for students, faculty and staff to identify possible actions to end gender-based violence by posting thoughts within the display.
The display will be featured in the B200 classroom hallway next week, December 7 to December 10.
