NU drawing the line on sexual violence
Nipissing University is pleased to welcome guest speakerJulie Lalonde fromDraw the Line, to engage students in a dialogue about sexual violence on Monday, April 13, from 9:45 a.m. – 3 p.m. in the Nipissing University Small Cafeteria (A246).
Draw the Line is a dynamic sexual violence prevention campaign in Ontario that represents the ethnic, linguistic, cultural, sexual, economic and geographic diversity of our province. The campaign challenges common myths about sexual violence and equips bystanders with information on how to intervene safely and effectively.
The event will feature two different sessions to increase the campus community’s understanding about how to prevent sexual violence. The discussion titledBystander Intervention & Safe Partying will run from 9:45 – noon, followed byHow do I Help Her? – Supporting Survivors of Sexual Violence from 1 – 3 p.m.
One in three Canadian women will experience some form of sexual violence in their lifetime. This violence is present in every city and community across the province and impacts the lives of our friends, family members and colleagues. It’s time to draw the line and work together to make our communities safe.
Nipissing’s Office of Aboriginal Initiatives (OAI) and The Department of Social Welfare and Development are hosting the event. All are welcome and admission is free.?
