Momentum extends Professional Development
Nipissing University’s Student Development and Services is extending Momentum to include additional professional development opportunities and drop in sessions for staff at the university through the Full-Time Academic Staff Bargaining Unit's labour action. As the labour action moves into a fourth week, Student Development and Services is offering more opportunities for Profession Development for staff at the university.
Mental Health First Aid – For Adults who Interact With Youth is a two-day session that will take place Thursday, November 26, and Friday, November 27, from 9 – 4 p.m. This workshop, a Mental Health Commission of Canada course, was developed to train people provide initial support to someone who may be developing a mental health problem or experiencing a mental health crises. Mental Health First Aid: For Adults Who Interact With Youth focuses on mental health problems and first aid for youth ages 12 - 24. Topics include: substance use disorders, mood disorders, anxiety disorders, psychotic disorders, eating disorders, and deliberate self-injury. This workshop is two days in duration.
In addition, the following drop in sessions will be available; #NUperspective Bringing in the Bystander, and Record of Student Development (RSD) Information Session for Supervisors.
#NUperspective Bringing in the Bystander, will take place on Thursday, November 26, at 10 – 12 p.m. in A259. This is a sexual violence and prevention workshop drawing from best practices the BITB curriculum teaches participants the concept of bystander intervention and the role of the bystander in the prevention of sexual violence. Participants will develop skills and gain a deeper understanding of the continuum of inappropriate sexual behaviour, their own barriers to intervention and techniques to act and intervene.
Record of Student Development (RSD) Information Session for Supervisors, will take place on Wednesday, November 25, at 1 – 2 p.m. in A259. This is a information session that will cover information specifically geared for supervisors who want to use the RSD effectively including: a brief description of what the RSD program is, how to submit activities and have them approved, as well as how to verify student involvement.
Momentum was launched as part of the university’s ongoing commitment to students by providing opportunities for continued engagement in their education.
