Inaugural Anne Clendinning Memorial Lecture

The department of History at Nipissing University is proud to present the inaugural Anne Clendinning Memorial Lecture on Thursday, March 5, at 7 p.m. in the Weaver Auditorium (B200). The lecture, titled History Lessons for the Victorian Schoolroom: Writing and Empire, Reading and Print, will be given by Dr. Leslie Howsam, history professor at University of Windsor and senior research fellow at the Centre for Digital Humanities at Ryerson University. Howsam’s research and teaching interests include the history of the book, cultural history of Britain, 19th and 20th centuries, history books and periodicals as print media and women in Victorian Britain.

The Department of History established the Anne Clendinning Memorial Lecture in 2015 to celebrate and honour Dr. Anne Clendinning, who died in 2014. An outstanding colleague, teacher, and scholar of Victorian Britain, Dr. Clendinning was an assistant professor of history at Nipissing for 12 years. She is remembered as a passionate historian who thrived on working through complex ideas and watching the minds of young scholars open in different ways.
