Dr. Rich retires

Nipissing University bids farewell to Dr. Sharon Rich, Associate Vice-President, Academic, who will retire on December 31, 2015. Dr. Rich has spent the past seven years serving the university in a variety of key roles. She first came to Nipissing from the University of New Brunswick in 2009, as the Dean of the Faculty of Education. In 2011-12, she added Interim Associate Vice-President, Academic and Research, to her Dean’s portfolio. She began her role as Associate Vice- President, Academic in 2013.

As dean of education, Dr. Rich played an important role in the creation of the Schulich School of Education in 2010. She was also instrumental in building and launching Nipissing’s first doctoral program in 2012, the PhD in Education with a focus on Educational Sustainability. A specialist in language and literacy, Dr. Rich was named the Dr. Elizabeth Thorn Chair in Literacy and Language Arts in 2012. During her time at Nipissing, Dr. Rich also led initiatives to help promote the research success of Nipissing’s faculty, including establishing the Celebration of Scholarship publication and event, and Research Week.

Dr. Rich will continue to work with the PhD students she is currently supervising.

She brought a great deal to this institution and we will miss her expertise, her guidance and especially her sense of humour,” said Dr. Harley d’Entremont, Vice-President, Academic and Research. “I wish her a long and healthy retirement and much enjoyment with her children and grandchildren.”
