Dr. Earl featured as Scholar-in-Residence at Holocaust Education Week

Congratulations to Dr. Hillary Earl, associate professor of History at Nipissing University, who is featured as the Scholar-in-Residence at the 35th annual Holocaust Education Week at the Sarah and Chaim Neuberger Holocaust Education Centre.

Dr. Earl was one of three Experts-in-Residence featured at this year’s Holocaust Education Week. During the event, Dr. Earl presented her lecture, titledFrom Perpetrators of Genocide to Ordinary German Citizens: the Reintegration of Nazi War Criminals into German Society, that explored a less familiar story of genocide, the aftermath of liberation with special attention paid to the way that former Nazi perpetrators integrated back into German society.

Dr. Earl’s research focuses on perpetrator testimony and war crimes trials in the aftermath of the Holocaust. She has received numerous awards including the Chancellor’s Award for Teaching Excellence in 2008. Her book,The Nuremberg SS-Einsatzgruppen Trial, 1945 – 1958: Atrocity, Law, and History, won the 2010 Hans Rosenberg Prize for best book in German History at the American Historical Association.

The theme of this year’s Holocaust Education Week was Liberation: Aftermath & Rebirth, that aimed to contribute to the understanding of the Holocaust by exploring new scholarship, engaging in cultural and literary analysis and by providing the opportunity for new generations to hear firsthand accounts from those who survived the Holocaust.
