Write for Rights
Are you looking for a chance to get in some last good deeds for 2014? Do you want to participate in exercising the power of the pen?
Join the Nipissing Amnesty International Community Action Circle, today, Dec 10, to celebrate the United Nation’s International Day for Human Rights in room A244 from 1:30 – 4:30 p.m. The celebration includes free food, a cash bar and convivial company.
This event is part of Amnesty International's annual Write for Rights day, a letter writing campaign to support people currently imprisoned and the victims of torture. Letters are written to the victims themselves to offer comfort and encouragement. Letters are also written to state representatives calling for legal justice and for investigations into the allegations of abuse.
Feel free to stop by A244 for as long as you like. If you don't have time to write a letter, feel free just to stop by, sign a petition, find out more about Amnesty International and browse the awesome selection of greeting cards created by local artists.
"If we tend to despair sometimes over the state of humanity, here's a chance to turn one little letter into a whole lot of difference,” said Dr. Gyllian Phillips, associate professor of English.
The Nipissing Amnesty International Community Action Circle gratefully acknowledges the support of Nipissing University, the Nipissing University Cultural Affairs Committee, and our featured artists, Françoise Noel and Alexandra Ball.
