Royal visit webcast
A visit from a member of the Royal family is a momentous and memorable occasion. Nipissing University was proud to welcome Her Royal Highness The Princess Edward, Countess of Wessex, to campus on September 19, for a speech about the importance of Aboriginal education.
Discussing on issues clearly outlined in Nipissing’s Strategic Mandate Agreement, the Countess discussed the need for improved educational opportunities in remote Aboriginal communities, as well as the importance of preserving the language and culture of First Nations people.
Ontario Premier Kathleen Wynne, who travelled with the Countess, touched on similar topics in her address at Nipissing. She noted that there are distinct challenges faced by each northern community as well as many successes. Like the Countess, the Premier noted the importance of education to a brighter future.
