Military officer discussing maritime security

Nipissing University welcomes Commander Jeff Hamilton to campus for a special discussion on Maritime Security on Wednesday, January 22 at 7 p.m. in room B200. The talk is presented by the Nipissing Branch of the Canadian International Council (CIC).

Drawing on his experience and training as a senior naval office, Commander Hamiton will examine some of the challenges of contemporary maritime security in a rapidly changing and interconnected world.

Commander Hamilton is an experienced and highly trained military officer. He was appointed Commanding Officer of HMCS IROQUOIS, assuming command in December 2010 and remaining until January 2013.  During this period, the ship maintained a high readiness status, conducted SM2 missile firings, and deployed for Op Caribbe to support counter-narcotics operations in the Caribbean basin. Appointed as Commanding Officer of HMCS TORONTO in April, 2013, Commander Hamilton joined the ship while deployed for Op Artemis in the Middle East and served as the Commander Task Force ARTEMIS (TFA) as part of CTF 150 counter-terrorism operations within the Indian Ocean, Red Sea, Gulf of Aden, Gulf of Oman, and Arabian Gulf until the end of July 2013. During this deployment, HMCS TORONTO seized five significant narcotics shipments on the high seas in support of the mission.

This event is free of charge and open to the public.
