Koivukoski named Coach of the Year, Lakers named All-Stars

Nipissing Lakers Nordic coach Toivo Koivukoski took home the OUA’s Coach of the Year honours this past weekend at the OUA Nordic Championships, hosted by Nipisisng.Along with coach Koivukoski, three members of the Nipissing Lakers Nordic team were recognized as OUA All-Stars for their strong performances this past season and over the course of the championship weekend.
On the women’s side, Kajsa Heyes and Jess Demers received the honour by finishing in the top 10 in overall time which was determined by two races – Friday’s 6.5 kilometre classic and Sunday’s 10 kilometre pursuit.  Heyes finished fifth and Demers ranked eighth.
On the men’s side, Jordan Cascagnette finished fifth and was the lone male to receive the honour.
Heyes and Shelby Dickey also claimed a bronze medal in the Team Sprints held Saturday afternoon.
Koivukoski put together a strong team this year, which successfully hosted and competed in the OUA Championships. He also represented Team Canada, along with Cascagnette and Heyes, as well as Thomsen D’Hon,t at the University Winter Games held in Italy, just prior to Christmas.
Nipissing will host the 2015 OUA Nordic Championships, with even higher expectations thanks to such a successful event this year.2014 NORDIC SKIING ALL-STARSFEMALE ALL-STARS
