Expert discussing role of universities in development

The Nipissing Branch of the Canadian International Council (CIC), and Nipissing University, are pleased to welcome Vice-Chancellor Richard Mibey to campus for a special lecture on Wednesday June 4, from 7 – 8:30 p.m. in the Harris Learning Library.
Mibey is the Chief Executive Officer of Moi University and will speak to his experiences of higher education in the Kenyan context. His talk is titled The Role of Universities in Enhancing Development:  The Case of Moi University, Kenya. 

This event is free and open to the public.

From 1986 - 1989, Mibey was a Lecturer in the Department of Botany, University of Nairobi; 1989 - 1996, he was Senior Lecturer in the same Department, before he was promoted to the positions of Associate Professor, 1997 – 2001, and Professor in 2002.

He has a wealth of Administrative experience, gained from his work as Chairman, Department of Botany, University of Nairobi; Principal, Chiromo Campus, University of Nairobi; Deputy Vice Chancellor, Administration and Finance, Maseno University; and from September 2006 to the present, he is the Vice-Chancellor, Moi University.

Mibey is a recognized world authority on fungal systematic. He is also a world authority on Fungal Taxonomy and Biodiversity Conservation. In that capacity, he has discovered more than 120 species of fungi. He has received several fellowships: DAAD Senior research Fellow; Darwin Fellow, and UNESCO Fellowship. He has published over 50 publications and conference papers.
