Enterprise Olympics on campus TODAY
Nipissing University and Canadore College welcome the Enterprise Olympics to the Education Centre Campus, May 14 and 15.
Created by the Northern Ontario Youth Entrepreneurship Initiative in partnership with Northern Ontario’s Community Futures Development Corporations, the Enterprise Olympics will bring together Secondary school students from across Northern Ontario for an initiation to entrepreneurship.
Students choose one of the following business sectors: Health and Wellness, Retail (Sales and Services), Technology and Innovation, Arts and Culture, Social Enterprise, and Mining and Forestry. They will spend the day being inspired by mentors and gaining valuable insight about entrepreneurship and how they can turn their passion into their livelihood.
Students from each of the business sectors will then form teams to establish a business idea, create a business plan and execute a professional elevator pitch, under the guidance of their mentors. The elevator pitch will be judged, and there is prize money to be won.
A $500 prize will be awarded to the winning pitch in each of the six business sectors and winning teams will advance to face a new panel of judges in the grand finale for a chance to win post-secondary education bursaries. Judges will follow established guidelines and judging criteria to select winners in the various categories.
The final pitches are scheduled to take place at 5:30 p.m. in the Robert J. Surtees Athletics Centre. The awards ceremony begins at 7:30 p.m. in the Robert J. Surtees Athletics Centre.
