Students make beautiful music together
Some Nipissing student leaders recently got the chance to get in a groove, get a rhythm and bang the drum loudly in an interactive session led by AfroCulture.
Residence Life Student leaders and Frosh leaders were invited to learn about drumming and make some collaborative music of their own in a giant drum circle in the Robert J. Surtees Student Athletics Centre.
AfroCulture brought enough drums for everyone to participate. Fule Badoe, a Ghana born artist and musician, then taught the group about African drum culture and showed them a series of different rhythmic patterns that they played together.
“We organized the event to offer a unique and dynamic experience to the student leaders, both as a team building opportunity and as a continued 'thank you' for all that they do to create a positive environment for students on our campus,” said Genevieve de Bruyn, Residence Life Supervisor. “We hope that the student leaders will have a memorable experience and gain some positive team-related insights through the process of working together to create music.”
