New book for Dr. Ricci
Congratulations to Dr. Carlo Ricci, professor in the Schulich School of Education, who has just released a book he co-edited with Pat Farenga, titled The Legacy of John Holt: A Man Who Genuinely Understood, Trusted, and Respected Children.
The book contains 16 portraits of a radical teacher and writer whose 10 books and work influenced school teachers and homeschoolers to help children learn in their own ways. Written by friends, colleagues, and homeschoolers who knew Holt personally, this book sheds new light on a pivotal figure in American education whose work continues to inspire the homeschooling movement (which Holt called “unschooling”). People who knew Holt from his college days until his death share stories and details about him that bring his quiet but forceful personality to life for readers and present his ideas about children and learning as part of their own lives, not just theory.
The Legacy of John Holt is available as a paperback; and as an e-book.
