Faculty staff hockey team impress themselves
Nipissing University’s entry into the prestigious University Oldtimers Faculty and Staff Hockey Tournament continued to build momentum with their strongest finish ever. For the third consecutive year, the Nipissing team improved on the score sheet, this year tying for first place overall with a 4-1 record. Wilfrid Laurier University took home first place, even though both teams had an identical record, as they defeated Nipissing 3-2 in their head-to-head matchup. (note: does that mean our Brantford Campus, where Nipissing and WLU team up to offer a joint concurrent BA/BEd degree can claim first?...why not!?)
The Nipissing team put in a herculean effort on the ice — playing five games in two days — and off the ice — with team meetings to discuss strategy lasting long into the night.
When the ice had settled, the Nipissing Lackers came out victorious over McMaster, Western, Waterloo and Guelph, with a lone loss to Laurier, and only one significant injury (to the incomparable Paul Courville).
