University committed to Lakers hockey; welcomes Battalion

Men's Hockey vs McGill playoffs

Nipissing University reiterates its commitment to the Lakers hockey program and is excited about the arrival of a women’s team next year, while welcoming the OHL’s Brampton Battalion to North Bay.“Lakers hockey enhances the student experience, adds to our celebrated campus atmosphere and is enjoyed by our entire community,” said Vito Castiglione, director of athletics at Nipissing University. “We look forward to many more fine years of Lakers hockey in North Bay, especially with a women’s team on the horizon.”
The team has excelled on the ice, garnering multiple CIS Top Ten rankings, and earning a berth in the playoffs every year. The Lakers have consistently drawn the third highest attendance in Canada for university hockey, since their inception in 2009.
“As hockey fans and as citizens of North Bay, we welcome the Battalion and the upgrades to Memorial Gardens,” added Castiglione. “The Lakers offer a great product, fast, exciting and clean hockey for a great price and the university is fully committed to our teams.  Our fans have been very supportive and we are confident that the City of North Bay will continue its commitment to Lakers hockey and work with us to ensure a bright future for our men’s and women’s hockey teams.”
