Shinerama raises $22,000
While the weather forecast in North Bay may have been cloudy and cold for the annual Shinerama day, September 10, there was a definite shine in the air as students from Nipissing University and Canadore College raised almost $22,000 for Cystic Fibrosis research.
Organized by the Nipissing University Student Union and The Canadore College Student Representative Council, Shinerama 2012, saw more than 600 volunteers hit the streets in North Bay, washing cars and raising money, making the 41st Shinerama campaign a success.
Student Shiners reported that the citizens of North Bay were in good spirits as countless donations were made for Shinerama. After spending five hours in the rain, the Student Shiners had raised more than $12,000. Added to the totals from fundraisers held over the summer, as well as online donations and proceeds from the Shinerama Tight & Brite Pub at The Wall Bar and Grill house, the current total raised sits at $21,969.46.
“The hard work and determination shown by each and every Shinerama volunteer was incredible, as was the generosity of our community,” said Nicole Brady, NUSU vice-president external. “This was a very successful Shinerama campaign in a long history of successful campaigns for Canadore and Nipissing.”
