History Seminar Series presents Dr. Neal
Nipissing University’s History department presents a special lecture with Dr. Derek Neal on Friday, November 30, at 2:30 p.m. in room A226.
Neal will present his paper Masculinity and Christianity in English History: Considering Religion, Identity and Chronology. This is the final History Seminar Series presentation of the Fall term.
This talk concerns how historians do their work. Gender is now a mainstream topic in historical studies, and historical masculinity has been the subject of much research. Yet such studies have largely neglected religion. At the same time, historians of masculinity have begun to wonder how to think about their subject in terms of historical change. Neal will present for discussion some of the challenging issues involved, and suggest that closer attention to religion enhances our historical understanding of both gender and change.
The lecture is free of charge and everyone is welcome.
