Congratulations to Mr. Seymour Schulich
Nipissing University congratulates Mr. Seymour Schulich on his promotion to the rank of Officer within the Order of Canada.
Mr. Schulich was cited for “transformational philanthropy in support of our education and health care institutions”. He was first made a Member of the Order of Canada in 1999.
Nipissing’s Schulich School of Education was named in 2010, thanks to a $15 million benefaction from Mr. Schulich toallow for strategic investment and growth in four areas: development of teacher preparation rich in the areas of science, technology, engineering and mathematics; approaches to enhance family and Aboriginal literacies; establishment of a Schulich Chair in Aboriginal Education and improving achievement through continuous improvement of teaching and enhanced educational technology. Mr. Schulich also supports 100 Schulich Scholarships at Nipissing, valued at $6,000 each.
The university also congratulates Nipissing honorary degree recipients Dr. James K. Bartelman and Dr. Stuart McLean on being named as Officers of the Order of Canada.
The list of Order of Canada recipients was announced by Governor General David Johnston on December 30, 2011. The list includes 66 illustrious Canadians. One of Canada’s highest civilian honours, the Order of Canada recognizes Canadians who have made outstanding achievements and shown dedication to community and service to the nation.
