Nipissing University will celebrate its tenth anniversary of offering post-secondary education in Brantford this year and has enjoyed significant growth and success in the Telephone City, with enrolment growing from just 29 students in its first year to 990 today.
“Nipissing Brantford is very excited to be able to participate in the Summer Night Road Race and are thrilled that the race organizers are supporting our students through a scholarship,” said Colleen Miller, co-chair of Nipissing Brantford’s Anniversary Committee and a member of the university’s Board of Governors. “It’s a wonderful way to mark the start of Nipissing’s second decade in Brantford. It is important that our students recognize the benefits of leading a healthy active lifestyle. They are looking forward to participating in the run. It’s going to be a lot of fun for everyone involved.”
“On January 1, I challenged the community to become more active, to build physical fitness into their daily routines,” said Brantford Mayor Chris Friel. “We all have hectic schedules, but it’s imperative that we do what we can, when we can. I have continued to build exercise into my weekly routines, running when I can or enjoying walks with our new puppy. It is wonderful to see Nipissing students rising to the challenge and for our community to be offering them support. I am thrilled with the success of the Brantford Tournament of Races and continue to urge Brantford residents to join us, participate in something great taking place right here in our own back yard.”
“The goal of this series has always been about encouragement,” said Bill Jol, race director for the 2012 Tournament. “We want as many people as possible to participate, to challenge themselves, to achieve new goals. Brantford is a booming university city. Our students are making a huge impact on the type of community we are becoming. A partnership between Nipissing and the Brantford Tournament of Races is a perfect fit.”
