Special presentation discusses teaching about evil
Nipissing’s department of History presents a special lecture, Teaching about Evil: Discussing Nazism in Contemporary Culture, on Friday, September 30 from 2:30 – 4 p.m. in room A122.
The presentation features Dr. Maartje Abbenhuis, from the University of Auckland (New Zealand), and Dr. Sarah Winters, from Nipissing’s department of English Studies. They will discuss the challenges posed by depictions of Nazi figures (and those like them) in various media including film and print.
Abbenhuis and Winters will talk about their contributions to a recent edited collection entitled Monsters in the Mirror: Representations of Nazism in Post-War Popular Culture (Praeger, 2010) and discuss some of the implications of their research for teaching on Nazi Germany and Nazi themes.
The presentation is part of the History Seminar Series. It is free of charge and all are welcome.
Refreshments will be provided.
