Hall of Fame Night as Lakers face McGill

The Nipissing Lakers hockey team will honour members of the North Bay Sports Hall of Fame on Saturday, November 26, as the Lakers take on the McGill Redmen at 7 p.m. at Memorial Gardens.

The team has declared the game Hall of Fame Night and many of the inductees will be in attendance.

“The individuals who have been inducted into the Hall represent an important element of our community, the love of sport,” said Gary Davison, vice-president of sales and marketing for the Nipissing Lakers.  “The Lakers organization is honoured to have them in attendance and are happy that we can celebrate their accomplishments and everything that the Hall of Fame itself represents.”

The organizers have picked a terrific opportunity to celebrate sport with McGill in town.  Currently, the Lakers sit tied for second place in the OUA East division, two points behind McGill.  When they last faced each other, the Lakers jumped out to a 3-0 lead before McGill stormed back to force overtime and, eventually, defeat the Lakers in a shootout.

There have been 234 members inducted into the North Bay Sports Hall of Fame, including Nipissing professor Barbara Olmsted, Lakers hockey head coach Mike McParland, staffer Daralynn D’Angelo, as well as many Nipissing graduates and friends.

The North Bay Sports Hall of Fame is a non-profit organization operated entirely by volunteers for the people of North Bay. It was created to "honour and perpetuate the names and deeds of those whose athletic prowess brought recognition to their community and to themselves; of those whose interest in and work for sport resulted in a climate which benefited athletes and athletics."

The Hall’s Latin motto tells the story – Factis Eorum Reminiscere – "By Their Deeds Shall Ye Remember Them”
