Graduate Update - Yves Kalala
A recent graduate of Nipissing's Social Welfare and Social Development program, Yves Kalala, secures a position with the World University Service of Canada Head Office in Ottawa.Below is an excerpt of the Press Release from WUSC-Ottawa:
Yves Kalala - Regional Liaison Officer (Ontario)campusontario@wusc.caYves Kalala is one of the great admirers of WUSC and its initiatives. Yves, a Congolese by origin, left the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) to seek refuge in Malawi due to war and political insecurity in his homeland. It is through his seven-year stay in Malawi that Yves developed a strong passion on world issues. In spite of passing high school with a distinction, Yves could not be admitted in the University of Malawi for being a refugee. This is one of the reasons which led Yves to explore WUSC. Yves applied in 2005 and got accepted to study at Nipissing University in North Bay through WUSC SRP. He graduated in April 2011 with a BA in Social Welfare. During his time in North Bay, Yves has been a great advocate of WUSC on and off-campus. Yves loves cultures & languages; he currently speaks English, French, Chichewa and Swahili having translated for the United Nations in Malawi in those four languages. He also likes playing team sports & board games. “Teach me a sport, teach me a game, I’ll play it, I just want to play.”
