Supporting Your Success

As temperatures begin to drop and you look ahead to the new year, you likely have questions about what winter term will look like. This website offers answers to frequently asked questions about winter term, as well as a place to learn about the many services and resources available to support you on your journey as a Laker.

Winter term classes will continue to be delivered primarily online, however some on campus courses will be available - click here for a list of courses available for on campus delivery this Winter term. The University continues to monitor and follow public health guidelines and will adapt as necessary to ensure the health and safety of our students, staff, faculty and community. We all have an important role to play in limiting the risk of COVID-19 on campus and in our communities.

At Nipissing, we remain focused on supporting student success and creating an enriching university experience. We’ve introduced a number of new services and resources to help you remain connected during these uncertain times including the NU Gateway Program, an online support program for first year students, as well as Online Learning Partners who provide peer support to students as they transition to online learning. The University continues to offer a full suite of student services through online, remote or in-person delivery. This includes support for students in financial difficulty, those who require mental health advice and those who need academic support.

We look forward to welcoming both new and returning Lakers to the Nipissing community this winter.

Winter Term FAQs

What is public health recommending for holiday travel/gatherings?

The North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit (Health Unit) has issued a list of recommendations regarding the holidays and is reminding the community that the safest way to spend the holidays this year is by only celebrating in-person with the people you live with and celebrating virtually with everyone else.

At this time, travel outside our region to visit or shop this holiday season is strongly discouraged. If you choose to travel, isolate for 14 days prior to leaving the district and isolate for 14 days upon return International students who travel home will need to quarantine as per the Government of Canada Quarantine Act.

For more information from the Health Unit on COVID-19 and the holidays visit myhealthunit.ca/COVID-19Holidays

Will any courses be offered on campus in winter term?

Since most courses will be delivered online, do I need to re-register in online course sections?

No. Following the announcement that winter term courses would be delivered primarily online, the Registrar’s Office began the process of moving your current course registrations to online sections. You do NOT need to re-register in winter term courses. You will be able to view your updated winter term schedule and register for new courses on November 9 in WebAdvisor. Note: if you are currently on a waitlist, you will remain on the waitlist.

Yes. The Nipissing Parry Sound District Health Unit mandated the use of face coverings while in certain enclosed spaces, effective Friday, July 24, 2020. Face coverings are required in all common spaces on campus.

Wearing a mask or face covering is now also recommended outdoors when you can't physically distance more than two metres.

Do I need a parking pass to park on campus?

The online parking permit registration is now open to Nipissing University students. Students living in residence who have a vehicle are required to register for a parking pass and will be charged the regular fee. Instructions to access the registration have been sent to you via WebAdvisor.

Students periodically accessing services on the main campus are asked to park in the visitor's lot and must immediately report to Security Services to provide their license plate number in order to receive complimentary parking. This process must be followed each time a student visits campus.

If you have any questions or require assistance, please contact the Campus Security office directly at ext. 5555.

I’m moving to North Bay in January. How do I get a bus pass?

What are my UserID and password for Blackboard, myNipissing and WebAdvisor?

Credentials (user ID and password)

Your user ID and password are the same whether you log into Blackboard, myNipissing or WebAdvisor. If you change your password in one area (i.e. WebAdvisor) the change will be reflected on all sites.

Credentials for New Students (Blackboard, myNipissing, WebAdvisor)

Your user name is provided to you in the acknowledgment package you received from the Registrar's Office. If you have misplaced this information and cannot remember your user name, you can go to the myNipissing home page and select "What's my User ID?" in the sign in area.

** If you have not received this information at all, please contact the Registrar’s Office by email at registrar@nipissingu.ca or by phone at 705-474-3450 ext. 4521. **

Your myNipissing password is initially set up to be your birthday in the format Mmmddyyyy. Therefore, if your birthday is January 9th 1984, your password would be Jan091984. Please note that passwords are case sensitive. This means that "Secret" and "secret" are different passwords, and typing in one when you mean the other will not work.

** If you are unable to access either Blackboard, myNipissing or WebAdvisor, please contact the University Technology Services (UTS) team by submitting a ticket at: helpdesk.nipissingu.ca. **

Credentials for Returning Students (Blackboard, myNipissing, WebAdvisor If you are a returning student and you have used the Nipissing University portal in the past, the user ID and password that you used previously are your current credentials. Therefore, if you registered for your course online via WebAdvisor (which is part of myNipissing), the credentials that you used to sign up for your course will also get you into Blackboard.

If you realize that you cannot remember your user ID and/or password, there are links on the myNipissing home page that can help you troubleshoot (see image above).

** If neither of these utilities help, please contact the University Technology Services (UTS) team by submitting a ticket at: helpdesk.nipissingu.ca. **
