New video discusses working in relationship with Indigenous Communities
Recently a group of Indigenous and non-Indigenous allied scholars, mentored graduate students, Elder-in-Residence, and community partners met in circle at Nipissing University to share knowledge, advice, and best practices for working with Indigenous communities in a good way.
In an effort to share the discussion, the university created this video, Working in Relationship with indigenous Communities.
Research with Indigenous communities is fundamentally based in relationships. This circle discussion also shares the challenges that can arise when these relationships are situated within the broader context of academia.
The video was created as part of Dr. Cindy Peltier’s work with the Indigenous Mentorship Network a new provincial network of Indigenous health training that is both culturally relevant and scientifically rigorous. The network supports research by Indigenous people for Indigenous people, with emphasis on the health and social issues that matter to Indigenous people.
