Guest lecture on teaching French as a second language
Nipissing University recently welcomed guest speaker Dr. Katy Arnett from the Faculty of Education at St Mary’s College in Maryland. Dr. Arnett gave a presentation to Nipissing’s French as a second language students, Near North District School board teachers and Nipissing Parry Sound Catholic School Board teachers.
In her presentation, titled Soutenir les besoins des apprenants en français langue seconde, Dr. Arnett guided the attendees through simulation activities to improve their understanding of students with learning difficulties. She also provided strategies to better meet the needs of those students in French as a second language classes.
Dr. Arnett has three years experience as a French teacher. She completed her MA and PhD at the University of Toronto’s Ontario Institute for Studies in Education, where she concentrated on students with learning difficulties in the French as a second language classroom. She has been working at St Mary’s College since 2005.
