INDG 2907 Indigenous Philosophy – Bimaadsiwin: The class in the Winter 2023 semester created a storybook walk that has been on display in the Library. The students got together to create art that expresses different Indigenous values.

INDG 2006 Indigenous Places – Changing Landscapes: This course explores the impacts of colonialism, capitalism, and climate change on Indigenous territories. Food sovereignty and food security are issues we considered through an assignment that had everyone creating a dish with an ingredient that originated in North, Central or South America, and sharing their creations with the class.

The Indigenous Studies program challenges the Eurocentric status quo that is all too easy to fall into. As a non-Indigenous student studying in a northern community on the territory of Nipissing First Nation, it is crucial to know, respect, and reciprocate Indigenous knowledge systems while learning first-hand the necessary steps to reconcile the right way. As a future educator, I am grateful to say the past four years in the program have and continue to shape decolonized teaching pedagogies.
