Guidance counsellors and university recruiters at NU

Nipissing University is rolling out the welcome mat for Northern Ontario Guidance Counsellors and university recruiters on Wednesday, April 30.
The university’s student recruitment office will welcome 34 guidance counsellors and 21 recruitment representatives from universities across Ontario for Regional Dialogues 2014.

It’s an opportunity for guidance professionals and university representatives to discuss and learn about key topics in provincial education. Dialogues are coordinated through the Ontario University Application Centre.

Attendees will be also be treated to a plenary lecture from Phil Hedges, Education Officer in the Student Success/ Learning to 18 Strategic Policy Branch of the Ministry of Education. Hedges will discuss updates on emerging provincial policies, projects and practices, providing an opportunity for high schoolcounsellors and university representatives to engage in meaningful dialogue on issues that impact student success.

Hedges has held his position at the Ministry for the past eight years. Previously, he served as the Executive Director of the Ontario School Counsellors' Association after many years on the OSCA board and as a member of the OSCA Executive. Among his roles with OSCA, Hedges developed and maintained the original OSCA web site and daily listserv. He represented OSCA on both the Ontario Universities' Council on Admissions and on the Ontario College Application Service Advisory Board.

Hedges spent his teaching career with the Grand Erie District School Board as a teacher of English, French and Guidance and ultimately, as the Head of Student Services at Delhi District Secondary School.
