Feed your head with the Common Book Common Ground program
Nipissing’s Common Book Common Ground program returns this year with Feed by M.T. Anderson.
Feed, a young adult novel, tells the story of a futuristic Earth in which internet connectivity is fed directly into peoples' brains, while a group of teenagers cope with connection to and disconnection from their society. Satirizing the increasing prevalence of electronic communication over physical interactions, as well as the increasing commercialization of the internet and of society, Feed paints a graphic picture of a world where knowledge has become so accessible that no one bothers to actually learn anything for themselves.
All first-year students in the Faculty of Applied and Professional Schools and the Faculty of Arts and Science are receiving a complimentary copy of the book at the start of the school year. Many of the students will be discussing the book in one or more of their courses this year.
The project has two main goals: to introduce students in an academic way to literacy and critical thinking, and to provide students with some common intellectual ground to facilitate discussion and friendship.
Be sure to keep your eye out for announcements and posters about upcoming activities and events relating to the Common Book Common Ground program.
