Esteemed expert to join Nipissing’s celebration of Charles Darwin
The Nipissing Biology Society will be hosting the 20th Anniversary Edition of the Annual Charles Darwin Birthday Celebration on Friday, February 10, 2023 at 7 p.m. at the Nipissing University Student Union (NUSU) Student Centre.
Dr. Garrett Herman, author of “Darwin and Me” and holder of one of the most extensive private collections of Charles Darwin’s books, papers, and memorabilia will be this year’s guest speaker.
In addition to being a world authority and preeminent collector of “Darwinalia”, Dr. Herman is a philanthropist and Chairperson of Galapagos Conservancy Canada. His deep passion for "all things Darwin" has placed him in contact with members of the Royal family, famous Darwin biographers, celebrity scientists and several of Charles Darwin's descendants, many of whom have visited Dr. Herman's Darwin library at his Toronto home.
Dr. Herman has made presentations to distinguished groups around the world and was awarded with honorary degrees from the University of Edinburgh and Concordia University for his Darwinian passion.
This event will also feature some incredible prizes (e.g., items signed by Jane Goodall and David Attenborough), and a special offering of Darwin-related food and beverages.
This celebration is open to everyone. Tickets can be purchased in advance for $10 and at the door for $15 and can be obtained from the Nipissing University Student Union (info@nusu.com), Nipissing University Biology Society (biosociety@nipissingu.ca), or Peter Nosko (petern@nipissingu.ca).
