Mathematics info session energizes students
Mathematics students were recently invited to an informal information session discussing important dates, on-campus activities and post-education career opportunities.
Hosted last Friday, February 2, by faculty members in the mathematics and computer science programs, the information session saw nearly 30 students in attendance discussing the program’s happenings for the next several months. The session was a great opportunity for students to communicate directly with professors and learn how they can engage inside and outside the community.
Schulich School of Education graduate, Carmelina McParland, was invited to speak with about her mathematics and educational experience.
Currently teaching at St. Joseph Scollard Hall Catholic Secondary School in North Bay, McParland encouraged and empowered students to make the most of their opportunities within the program and to have confidence in themselves.
"If I can solve these complex math equations in front of all my peers and professors, than I can certainly do it in front of a classroom of students,” she said.
McParland imparted that the more students at the undergraduate level engage with resources and relationships, the more doors will open for them later on in their careers.
