Dr. Lockhart exhibit on now at Kennedy Gallery
Dr. Jack Lockhart, an internationally recognized artist, honorary degree recipient and former faculty advisor in the Schulich School of Education, is currently exhibiting his artwork at the WKP Kennedy Gallery in North Bay.
The show, titled Reflections of the North, is on display until August 3, 2018. It presents 18 paintings in a variety of styles that Dr. Lockhart has developed over 50 years as a professional artist. The work explores the beauty of the Northern Ontario landscape using oil, watercolour and acrylic paint.
“To me the landscape is like a living being constantly changing and evolving, continually challenging me to bring it to life in an exciting and dynamic manner. In order to accomplish what I want to do I have developed a variety of styles which allow me to capture the beauty of the landscape in a realistic setting to the abstract,“ said Dr. Lockhart.
Dr. Lockart’s paintings are featured in private and corporate collections worldwide and he has done numerous paintings commemorating historic events such as the 100th anniversary of Teacher Education in North Bay, the Ontario Provincial Police, West Ferris Secondary School, the 75th anniversary of the City of North Bay and the 50th anniversary of NORAD, as well commissions for Nipissing University, the University of North Carolina and the Canadian Ecology Centre.
Born in Selkirk, Manitoba, Dr. Lockhart was raised in Fort Frances and North Bay, Ontario. He had an extensive career in education, including 31 years as an elementary school principal and several years as a faculty advisor with the Schulich School of Education. He was a Rotary International District Governor in 1997-98 and an inductee into the North Bay Sports Hall of Fame (2008) and he received an honorary Ed.D. from Nipissing University in 2010.
