Celebrate and learn about Indigenous culture
The Library’s Thomson Reading Room is hosting an event spearheaded by OPSEU’s Indigenous Mobilization team, featuring sessions and workshops to help people learn about Indigenous culture.
Running on June 29, from 2 – 4 p.m., the Truth and Reconciliation Call to Action, is being facilitated by OPSEU Indigenous Mobilization team members Darlene Kaboni and Theresa O'Connor. Educational sessions will focus on smudging, colonialization, the 60's Scoop and the Truth and Reconciliation report. The workshop will incorporate cultural artifacts allowing for people to learn about and celebrate Indigenous culture, ceremonies and beliefs.
The event also features a petition that people can sign asking Ontario to make National Aboriginal Day a provincial statutory holiday.
