Two Friday events for Computer Science and Math program

The department of Computer Science and Mathematics has two events scheduled for this Friday, February 26, a department research seminar featuring Dr. Vesko Valov at 10 a.m. followed by a more general lecture with Dr. Ihor Stasyuk at 1 p.m.Dr. Valov, professor of Mathematics, will present Some questions concerning homogeneous metric ANR compacta in room A223.

Dr. Stasyuk, Assistant Professor of Mathematics, will be discussing Probability: basic concepts and interesting examples, at 1 p.m. in room A257. This is the third lecture aimed at a more general audience that the department has hosted this academic year.

Here is the abstract:

We introduce basic concepts of set theory and probability.

We discuss discrete and continuous models and consider some interesting examples of calculating probabilities. This will be an expository talk, aimed at a general audience, with some high school students attending.
