Lakers hockey playoff recap
Despite a late season push to the post-season and a strong Game 1, the Nipissing Lakers men’s hockey team was eliminated from the playoffs after a loss to the Carleton Ravens last weekend in Ottawa. The Ravens posted a 4-0 shutout to claim Game 2 and win the series 2-0, advancing to Round 2 of the 2014 OUA men’s hockey playoffs.
Thanks to a strong third period, the Ravens took Game 1 by a score of 4-2 over the Lakers at Memorial Gardens.
The Lakers played a strong 40 minutes, but the Ravens were too much, earning the victory and completing the sweep on Friday night.
The Lakers got goals from Kevin Rebelo and Craig Campbell during Wednesday’s loss, but were shutout Friday night, generating just 25 shots on net. The Ravens had 51 shots, forcing Lakers goalie Kirk Rafuse to make 47 saves, on top of the 36 he made Wednesday in Game 1. The Lakers managed to make the playoffs for another year, but were unable to put together a long playoff run despite some signs of potential throughout the two playoff games, and throughout the regular season.
