Anthology urges Canadians to rethink education, equity, and inclusion

A new book edited by Canadian writer, social activist, and Nipissing University professor Dr. Douglas Gosse discusses the importance of, and the barriers faced by Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transsexual, Transgender, Intersex, Queer, Questioning, 2-Spirited and Allies from across Canada. Out Proud, Stories of Courage, Pride & Social Justice (Breakwater Books and Egale Canada) aims to open new ways of seeking social justice, forging families, constructing Canadian identities and communities, and unlearning learning.

Featuring 54 essays, the anthology examines how Canadians navigate sexual orientation as well as race, class, gender, disability, urban and rural living, and language and culture.

The youngest author featured in the anthology is 17 and the eldest 82, but all share the courage and conviction to challenge us to rethink and transform education and society for the better.

A book launch for Out Proud, Stories of Courage Pride & Social Justice is taking place today, Wednesday, September 3, at 7p.m. at Glad Day Bookshop (598 Yonge Street) in Toronto. The launch will feature a book signing, a number of readings and a discussion facilitated by Gosse.
