Faculty claim inaugural Pangea Cup
Recently, Nipissing Geography students took on the Geography faculty in the inaugural Pangea Cup soccer match.
The match started slowly as the two teams tested each other out, until about halfway through the first half, when John “Butcher” Kovacs scored to put the faculty team ahead. Soon after, the Butcher converted a penalty kick after a vicious take-down in the box.
The students struck back soon after and the first half ended with the faculty up 2 - 1.
After a much needed breather (and some oranges!), the second half got going and the faculty team took charge of the game, led by goals from Martin “Handyman” Holmes, Sean “Third Star” O’Hagan and Jason “Sniper” Kovacs.
The students could only muster two goals in the second half, while the faculty roared ahead with five. The final score was 7 – 3 in favour of the faculty heroes.
The Pangea Cup trophy is now touring Geography undergraduate classrooms, so that all students can see the glorious hardware.
Special thanks to Patrick Spedding and the Geography Club for organizing the event, and the student and faculty teams for making this the highlight of the year.
