Event showcasing the fuelling of the bioeconomy

The Biomass Innovation Centre at Nipissing University is pleased to invite the community to an event chalk full of biomass news and a grand re-opening for the office.The event takes place on Monday, September 30, at 11 a.m. at the new Biomass Innovation Centre office.  It will feature the announcement of Industrial Research Assistance Program funding and the release of the names of the five northern businesses selected to participate in Northern Ontario Biomass Initiatives II.  This initiative selects five northern small-to-medium sized businesses with an interest in entering the bioeconomy, and provides them with $5,000 of research services.
The Roadmap for Biomass Industry Development in the Blue Sky Region will also be released at the event.  A blueprint for kick-starting a robust regional bioeconomy, the report makes 10 specific recommendations for the Blue Sky Region.  It was funded jointly by the NOHFC, FedNOR, and Nipissing University.

“As one of the co-founders of the Biomass Innovation Centre of Nipissing University and the Chair of the Cleantech Caucus in Parliament, I am pleased our government is continuing to assist by providing funding for its continued growth and development,” said Nipissing-Timiskaming MP Jay Aspin.

“Northern Ontario Bioeconomy Initiatives II will help northern businesses explore opportunities in the bioeconomy.  The recommendations in the Roadmap Report will assist northern communities and businesses to participate in the bioeconomy, leading to high-quality local jobs and sustainable development.   We’re truly excited to work with our funding partners and community stakeholders to deliver on these recommendations,” said Dawn Lambe, Project Manager of the Biomass Innovation Centre.
An open-house will follow the announcements, with the everyone invited to learn about the sustainable bioeconomy, renewable community energy and several student-led research initiatives.

Research
